THE COBRA & THE CANARY by Imaginary Authors is a fragrance for those days when you want to get away from it all and treat yourself to a simple luxury experience, like a quick drive across the country on a hot, hazy weekday. The fragrance notes include lemon, orris (orris root), tobacco blossom, leather, hayfields and asphalt. Iris butter, also known as orris butter, is extracted from the roots of the iris plant, particularly from the species Iris germanica, Iris florentina and Iris pallida. The process of producing orris butter is complex and time-consuming, making it one of the most precious ingredients in perfumery. To produce iris butter, the rhizomes (rootstocks) of the iris are first harvested and then dried. This drying process can take several years, during which time the rhizomes develop their characteristic, full fragrance. After drying, the rhizomes are ground and then distilled to extract the essential oil. This oil is further processed to obtain iris butter, which has a firm, waxy consistency.

Iris butter is characterized by its rich, floral fragrance with woody and powdery notes. It is prized in perfumery because it gives perfumes incomparable depth and elegance. Due to its complex fragrance profile and elaborate production, iris butter is a very precious ingredient in the creation of a perfume.

The inspiration for THE COBRA & THE CANARY by Imaginary Authors comes from the story of 23-year-old Neal Orris, who is desperately looking for a way out of his dead-end job and the decaying town in Virginia where he grew up. A vision from a fortune teller leads him to a hidden treasure - a pristine 1964 Shelby Cobra roadster that was once his late father's secret obsession. His first stop is the tobacco farm where his best friend Ike works, and from there the two never look back. Aiming to reach the Palm Springs racetracks and win prize money that would keep them afloat, their journey blurs into a whirlwind of seedy motels and strong drinks, cool swimming pools and hot debutantes, burnt rubber and cigarette smoke. At each stop, the friends invent new aliases and personas for themselves, an innocent game that drives them to the depths of decadence and despair.
