Behind the Fragrance
Trudon - BRUMA
A ray of sunlight that spreads its light with the power of a shadow BRUMA is a Latin term meaning solstice. The time when the sun reaches its highest and lowest point of the year. Bruma describes the romantic ride of a character of noble blood who flees from the chains of imposed conventions and escapes into the depths of a forest at night. BRUMA by Trudon is a mysterious and spicy eau de parfum that was launched in 2017 and captivates with its refined and almost animalistic sensuality.
The fragrance composition opens with a striking combination of galbanum, lavender, peach and black pepper, creating a spicy yet floral atmosphere. In the heart note, a soft, floral blend of iris, violet, lavender and peony unfolds, transforming into a powdery cloud. These notes combine harmoniously with warm tonka bean to create an inviting and long-lasting fragrance experience. The base note of Bruma is rich in leather and Haitian vetiver, giving the fragrance a deep, earthy and almost wild note that emphasises the animalic theme of the perfume.
Trudon's BRUMA fragrance was the 2018 Fragrance of the Year and winner of the FIFI Awards. The FiFi Awards, often referred to as the ‘Oscars’ of the fragrance industry, are an annual event organised by the Fragrance Foundation. They were first held in 1973 and serve to recognise excellence in various aspects of perfumery. The awards are presented in several categories, including the best new fragrances in various market segments, best packaging, advertising campaigns and much more. The FiFi Awards aim to honour the most creative and innovative contributions to perfumery and recognise both established and emerging talent within the industry.
Packaging and design: The perfume is presented in an elegant bottle, featuring ribbed glass and a pine green lid inspired by Trudon's famous candles. The lid is reminiscent of the silhouette of La Promeneuse and contrasts with the transparency of the bottle body, inspired by crystal blocks. Source of inspiration: Bruma, which means ‘solstice’ in Latin, is inspired by the image of a nocturnal horsewoman who, accompanied by her horse and surrounded by the deep forest, draws inner strength and develops a magnetic and sensual aura in the midst of the elements. This rich and profound fragrance composition makes BRUMA an ideal perfume for those who seek a connection to the elemental forces of nature and desire a scent that awakens both memories and instincts.
The creator of the fragrance BRUMA, Antoine Lie, is a French perfumer known for his creative and unconventional approach to perfumery. Born in Strasbourg, he developed an interest in chemistry at an early age and later decided to further develop his passion for fragrances in Grasse. He studied there at the renowned Givaudan Perfume Institute under the guidance of the famous perfumer Jean Carles.
Lie has worked for big names in the perfume industry throughout his career, including Givaudan and Takasago, before deciding to go independent and set up his own company, ALOE - Antoine Lie Olfactive Experience, in Paris. This allowed him to pursue his vision of perfumes without industrial constraints. Lie is known for often combining unusual materials to create unique, multi-sensory fragrances. His work includes creations for brands such as Etat Libre d'Orange and Nu Be, and he has created fragrances that are both provocative and avant-garde. Some of his best-known perfume creations include ‘Armani Code’ by Giorgio Armani and ‘Versace Crystal Noir’. His distinctive style and penchant for artistic freedom have earned him recognition and respect in the industry.
