Our expedition back to the roots, to sunny Italy, once characterized by Phoenicians, Greeks, Arabs and Normans, commences with bergamot. This regal citrus fruit, a harmonious blend of lemon's vivacity and orange's bitterness, reigns as the undisputed queen of fragrances – an essential ingredient in many formulations heralding success today. However, this queen was never truly honored due to her volatility. Thus, we chose to employ ancient extraction methods.

The Bergamot Sponge Method, also known as the "Sponge Method", is a traditional technique for extracting essential oils from the peel of bergamot fruit. Originating from the Calabria region of southern Italy, where bergamot is predominantly cultivated, this process begins with the careful harvesting of ripe bergamot fruits. The outer shell is delicately removed, leaving the pulp untouched. The shell is then pressed onto a natural sponge, which absorbs the precious essential oils. Through circular movements, the sponge becomes saturated with the oils. After absorbing the essential oils, the sponge is squeezed to extract the oils, resulting in high-quality bergamot fragrances used in perfumes and other products. The Bergamot Sponge Process embodies tradition and artisanship, aiming to extract the purest and highest-quality bergamot essence while harkening back to the fruit's ancient origins.
