Etat Libre D'Orange
Ambitious, bold and liberated - this is ETAT LIBRE D'ORANGE, a perfumery that is free to be loved, free to love and free to create.
ETAT LIBRE D'ORANGE is strange and ironic, a brand that plays with ideas and creates fragrances without restrictions or compromises. Fragrances that push the boundaries of perfume, that overcome the forbidden, that break the rules and exist as a result. Sometimes ironic, often subversive and always elegant.
ETAT LIBRE D'ORANGE is a French perfume brand founded in 2006 by Etienne de Swardt. The name of the brand is derived from ‘État libre d'Orange’, the French name for the Orange Free State, a former Boer republic in southern Africa.
Etienne de Swardt was born on 27 August 1970 in Pretoria, South Africa, and moved to New Caledonia with his parents in 1975. He moved to Paris in 1993 and worked for the LVMH Group from 1994, where he developed concepts for Givenchy perfumes until 2000. In 2000, he launched the first perfume line for dogs called ‘Oh My Dog’, followed by ‘Oh My Cat’. This was followed in 2004 by a perfume and care range for the American boxing brand Everlast.
The founding of ETAT LIBRE D'ORANGE created a platform for creative freedom in perfumery. The brand is known for its unconventional and provocative fragrances that challenge traditional perfume conventions. The brand's logo features a blue, white and red cockade on a white background. The bottles have a standardised design, with the only differences being the name and the decorations around the logo.
Etienne de Swardt launched his first own perfume brand on the market in 2000 with ‘Oh my Dog’, followed soon after by ‘Oh my Cat’. In 2006, he founded the ETAT LIBRE D'ORANGE gallery in Paris, a place where perfumers can create fragrances free from constraints and traditions.
ETAT LIBRE D'ORANGE is known for its daring and unique fragrance compositions and offers a wide range of perfumes that often tell stories or explore specific themes.
