Behind the Fragrance
Isabey - AVANT ET APRÈS - Eau de Parfum
AVANT ET APRÈS is an eau de parfum created by perfumer Marie Schnirer. It is one of Isabey's last releases in the 1930s, similar to "Tendre Nuit" and "Prends-moi" (Take-me). The perfume symbolizes the continuation of the encounter between two loving hearts, between romance and sensuality. The name AVANT ET APRÈS evokes emotions and stands for the transition caused by a unique encounter. The radiant white bottle represents the purity of the moment, while the bright gold color of the plate and ribbon symbolize a bright future.
For her first collaboration with Isabey, Marie Schnirer has created a sunny, contemporary fragrance, a bouquet of feminine and sensual white flowers sublimated with salty notes. She describes her inspiration from Isabey as elegance, character and femininity, and it was interesting for her to compose a large bouquet of white flowers, which for her could not be more feminine and sensual. AVANT ET APRÈS is described olfactorily as a floral-aquatic perfume based on white flowers. It is a sun-white floral bouquet that is creamy and numbing, with a hint of sea breeze that gives it freshness and marks it at the same time. In the background, vanilla, benzoin, ambroxan and musk support the sweetness and intensity of the tiare flower, giving the fragrance a warm and sensual depth. The description emphasizes an interpretation between a monoi accord and an orange blossom, presented in an elegant version. It is a contrast between opulence and contemporary freshness.
Ambroxan is a synthetic fragrance that was first developed in the 1950s and has been widely used in perfumery ever since. It belongs to the ambergris family of fragrances and is often used as a base note in perfumes to add a warm, woody and slightly animalic nuance. Ambroxan has a unique scent that is reminiscent of ambergris, but is less animalic and heavy in comparison. It gives perfumes a subtle yet long-lasting scent and often helps to fix other fragrances. In many perfumes, ambroxan serves as a key note, giving the fragrance a certain depth and sensuality without being too overpowering. It is often combined with other fragrances to create complex and intriguing olfactory profiles.
Perfumer Marie Schnirer imagines a walk along the coast at dawn for this composition. It is about the feeling of the cool wind gently caressing the face while the white light of dawn envelops everything. This image conveys the harmonious interplay of freshness and opulence captured in AVANT ET APRÈS. Marie Schnirer is of pure Parisian descent, and urbanity, architecture and art are inexhaustible and rich sources of inspiration for her. After studying chemistry at the University of Paris 7, she joined the ESP. Marie is a globetrotter, she lives to the rhythm of time zones and has therefore developed a keen and refined understanding of international markets and tastes (Russia, Asia, Middle East, North America). In the laboratory, she is mainly responsible for bespoke creations and stands out because she likes to compose generous and passionate fragrances. She dares to make compromises and is driven by audacity. Her goal is to discover new olfactory frontiers, to create harmonious, subtle and innovative accords that remain close to the customer's needs and desires.
