Behind the Fragrance
Parfums MDCI - CIO CIO SAN - Eau de Parfum
CIO CIO SAN draws inspiration from the tragic opera "Madame Butterfly" by Giacomo Puccini, encapsulating the grace and suffering of the title character, Cio Cio San. This floral and elegant fragrance reflects the delicate beauty and tragic fate of the protagonist. "Madame Butterfly" is a renowned opera by Giacomo Puccini, centered around the character Cio-Cio-San, a young Japanese geisha who falls in love with the American naval officer Pinkerton. The opera unfolds the tragic narrative of their unrequited love, Cio-Cio-San's enduring wait and her ultimate sacrifice as Pinkerton establishes a new relationship in America. Abandoned and hopeful for Pinkerton's return, Cio-Cio-San encounters a heartbreaking destiny. The name "Madame Butterfly" symbolizes Cio-Cio-San's nickname and her fragile nature, akin to the delicate and graceful beauty of a butterfly.
CIO CIO SAN, created by perfumer Cécile Zarokian, is an olfactory masterpiece that exudes sophistication and joy. The fresh top notes transition into a delicate heart of cherry blossoms and peonies, evoking images of a cherry blossom festival. The finale is anchored in the woody aspects of guaiac wood and cedar wood, with white musk completing the composition like the delicate flapping of a butterfly's wings. Cécile Zarokian, an independent perfumer based in Paris, founded her own company in 2011. With a career spanning over 15 years, she began her journey with a four-year apprenticeship at Robertet, a leading French perfume house. Cécile's notable creation, "Epic Woman", became one of Amouage's best-selling fragrances. In addition to her work as a perfumer, Cécile serves as a fragrance branding consultant, assisting international companies in crafting and developing their olfactory identity. Her expertise in scent marketing enables her to curate multi-sensory experiences for unique events and activations.
