Behind the Fragrance
D.S. & Durga - BOWMAKERS - Eau de Parfum
D.S. & DURGA BOWMAKERS / Amid the transcendental woods of the 1800s, craftsmen from the Massachusetts Bay Colony built violins and bows.
There is something magical about the forests of New England. For centuries they have been the stomping ground of Native Americans, Vikings, poets, hermits and dreamers. Forests represent what lies just beyond our door, but is mysterious and hidden, frightening and inviting at the same time. Emerson's reflections are peppered with the woods of Massachusetts, and Thoreau conducted his great experiment right in them. New England is characterised by a juxtaposition of tranquillity and grandeur. Like the lands of New England's ancestors (English, Irish, Scottish), the mountains are not gigantic, but they are majestic.
There are no Himalayas, no Rocky Mountains, no great lakes, no deep trenches. And yet entire folk stories live in the cracks and crevices of the land. Caves are gateways to the hiding places of wizards. Valleys are guarded by tutelary gods. The scale may be picturesque, but the lands beyond are infinite. Emerson has everything he needs in the rural areas around him. Magic is not something that lies far away in a distant realm. The seemingly mundane space between the trees holds more, if you bother to look there.
This magic permeates everything he writes. The artist jumps into the flow of creation. He or she imitates the creator and follows inspiration freely. Glimpses can be seen all around us. Small pieces of land - yards, thickets, gardens, rooftops - that remind us of the larger world beyond the everyday. We don't have to travel into the wilderness to feel the endless space in our minds.
One of the special fragrance raw materials in BOWMAKERS is rosin. Rosin, also known as resin or balsam, is a natural resin extracted from the trunks of pine and other trees. It is known for its strong, characteristic scent. Rosin has a slightly sweet, balsamic scent with resinous and slightly woody notes. It is often used in perfumery to add depth and warmth and to improve the longevity of other fragrances.
It gives fragrances a rich and full-bodied texture.
"Bowmakers" by D.S. & Durga is an eau de parfum launched in 2013 that captures the atmosphere of a 19th century New England violin maker. The fragrance was inspired by the workshops where violins and bows were crafted from precious woods. This inspiration is expressed through the complex fragrance composition of woody notes and resins.
The top note consists of violin varnish, mahogany and an outdoor accord that captures the freshness of a forest. The heart note brings cypress and maple shavings into play, providing a woody depth. The base notes of pine resin, old walnut wood and secret varnishes give the fragrance a warm and earthy foundation.
The fragrance BOWMAKERS by D.S. & Durga is often described as dry and resinous, with a slight hint of sweetness from the resins, which give it a warm, almost meditative quality. The moderate sillage and long lasting nature make it an ideal fragrance for lovers of woody and natural flavours
This fragrance is particularly suitable for those seeking a connection to nature and traditional craftsmanship. It is suitable for both men and women and can be worn all year round, but especially in cooler months when its warm and calming effect is particularly appreciated.
