Behind the Fragrance
Laboratorio Olfattivo - NUN - Eau de Parfum
Luca Maffei used this palindromic word to refer to the primordial water of the ancient Egyptians, in fact to the god Nun. Legend has it that this water gave birth to the lotus flower, a flower that was hidden in the water during the night and opened again when the sun came out. When it bloomed, the flower revealed the sun god Atum. Hence the symbolism of the sun god, the rebirth. This fragrance comes from the nun and opens when the sun shines, releasing its fragrant molecules into the air. It is a tribute to this iconic, symbolic flower. Laboratorio Olfattivo - NUN opens with strong notes of citrus, in which the sweetness of the grapefruit is revealed, followed by a heart of blooming lotus, jasmine and ylang-ylang. Woods, amber and moschus are the final notes of this fragrant chord.
Luca Maffei is the perfumer behind Laboratorio Olfattivo - NUN. He grew up surrounded by an infinite number of perfume samples and mingled with many famous names in perfumery, such as Lucas Sieuzac, Dominique Ropion and Michel Almairac. His father was already at home in the world of perfume. This unique environment and upbringing awakened Lucas' fascination for fragrance ingredients and the mysterious alchemy of fragrance creation. At the age of 22, he moved to Grasse to study with Françoise Marin, the former director of the Roure Perfumery School. After training with Vincent Ricord, Maffei began a close collaboration with master perfumer Maurizio Cerizza, who encouraged him to enter The Scent of Excellence Contest at Esxence. Luca's entry "Iris Magnifica" was selected as one of the top five finalists.
With the creation of Atelier Fragranze Milano in 2014, Luca Maffei became a member of the Société Française des Parfumeurs (SFP). Since then, he has created over 50 fragrances for mainstream and niche brands, as well as air fresheners and candles. Maffei's creations "Black Pepper & Sandalwood" by Acca Kappa and "Néa" by JUL ET MAD Paris won the "Independent" category at the 2015 and 2016 Art and Olfaction Awards in Los Angeles. Maffei has worked with a wide range of brands, including Acca Kappa, Aedes de Venustas, Alyssa Ashley, Carthusia, Histoires de Parfums, Jul et Mad Paris and Perris Monte Carlo, to name but a few.
Among his most popular fragrances are Masque Milano L'Attesa, Jul et Mad Paris Néa, Histoires de Parfums This Is Not A Blue Bottle 1.2, Carthusia Terra Mia and Perris Monte Carlo Rose de Taif. As an independent perfumer, Luca Maffei has made a significant impact on the world of fragrance through his creative vision and commitment to the art of perfumery. His contributions to both mainstream and niche brands have earned him international recognition and awards. For Louis Vuitton, Luca Maffei created Métaboles in 2016, a floral, woody composition, and in the same year, Note di Colonia I by Acqua di Parma. A modern interpretation of classic colognes.
