Behind the Fragrance
nomenclature - SHI_SO - Eau de Parfum
Although fragrance chemistry has not yet been able to capture the diversity of greenery in the same multifaceted way as nature, its spectrum today goes far beyond terms such as "grass" or "Granny Smith". Givaudan's herbal Glycolierral® captures the cool scent of crushed efeu leaves - hence the name of the molecule, derived from the French word for "efeu", lierre. Glycolierral® is a synthetic fragrance widely used in the perfume industry. It has a floral, green aroma with notes of efeu leaves and woody undertones. Glycolierral® is particularly valued for its ability to act as a green top note modification and fits well into green floral and fruity concepts, especially in combination with eucalyptus notes. It has a soft, green, milky nuance that makes it ideal for use in fragrances seeking a fresh and natural dimension. Glycolierral® is not found in nature and is an example of the innovative possibilities of synthetic chemistry in modern perfumery to create complex and appealing fragrances that are not available in traditional natural extracts.
Pronounced with a long 'o', 'Shisõ' means 'modern thought' in Japanese. A short 'o', on the other hand, refers to the uniquely complex flavour of the shiso leaf. Shiso is a well-known herb in Japanese cuisine and is not usually found in perfumes. Bertrand Duchaufour has long been fascinated by its scent - a blend of mint, basil and cumin with a hint of metal. In SHI_SO, he offers a contemporary version of a traditional genre, eau de cologne, replacing the citrus with a wide range of green notes. This includes the zesty bite of kardamom, slightly cooler peppermint, lemon verbena, rough black Johannisbeere, soapy almond ani and acidic rhabarber. All in all, this fragrance is a harmonious blend of natural inspiration and modern perfumery, creating an unforgettable olfactory experience.
