Behind the Fragrance
Sand Dance by Stéphane Humbert Lucas – La Collection Serpent – Snake Collection
"Sand Dance" is inspired by the captivating performance of an Indian dancer, embodying the soft and nomadic nature of sand as she performs the dance of the Cobra with pride, sensuality and invincibility. The dancer's choreographic veil, enchanting, shocking, and fascinating with every step and posture, bulges with the dance.
The fragrance takes a turn as hints of cocoa and patchouli take over, transporting us to the home of the Kalbelia women. These women are part of an ethnic group in India, known as "snake charmers", particularly living in Rajasthan. They are celebrated for their unique culture, traditional music, dances and connection to the art of snake charming. The Kalbelia women are renowned for the Kalbelia dance, inspired by the movement and behavior of snakes. Their colorful traditional clothing, graceful movements and the tinkling sound of metal rings around their ankles create a mesmerizing spectacle.
"Sand Dance" captures the essence of this performance, offering a sensational olfactory experience in the middle of the desert. The spices from all corners of India, symbolizing the cradle of cosmic knowledge, are depicted as cheerful, fragrant confetti thrown in a vast alley – the Alley of Kings – covered in incense, sandalwood, leather and dunes.
The perfume evokes the burning wind carrying hints of spices, creating a captivating blend of warm and sweet notes of cocoa, resulting in a hypnotically beautiful and alluring fragrance.
