Behind the Fragrance
Taklamakan by Stéphane Humbert Lucas – Collection 777
Named after one of the world's largest deserts on the Silk Road, Taklamakan draws inspiration from the merchants who traversed the desert, bringing back exquisite fabrics, jewels and spices from the Orient. Similar to the shifting sands of its namesake, Taklamakan is characterized by its intense heat and arid nature. The Taklamakan Desert, also known as the "Desert of Death", sprawls across Central Asia in northwest China, renowned for its extreme dryness and heat.
Despite its harsh conditions, this desert, once part of the ancient Silk Road, boasts a rich history and diverse flora and fauna adapted to its extreme environment.
Taklamakan, the fragrance, embarks on a journey where Indian patchouli encounters smoky vanilla, resins and incense, reminiscent of the ancient spice route. It culminates in a love affair with Chinese cedar, capturing the essence of the desert winds that mingle over time, creating a perfume that feels like a dream or an indelible imprint. The fragrance unfolds with nuances of crushed rock and vanilla, enhanced by smoky and woody undertones, exuding an exciting and powerful aura. The result is the meticulous work of an artist, delicate and nuanced, with hints of resins and woven cotton notes suggesting a serene and sensuous journey.
"Taklamakan" possesses a soul of its own and an evocative intelligence that transforms the fragrance into an enchanting mystery, testifying to the boundless creativity of its creator.
The 777 collection, an oriental odyssey initiated in 2012, invites you to embark on a captivating journey through the Middle East, inspired by Stephane Humbert Lucas's personal travels to the region. For him, the Orient is not merely a geographical expanse but the cradle of an enthralling universe, as evidenced by the stories woven into each fragrance.
