Behind the Fragrance
D.S. & Durga - MISSISSIPPI MEDICINE - Eau de Parfum
Mississippi Medicine / Based on the rituals of the proto-Mississippian death cult of the 1200s
Based on the rituals of the proto-Mississippian death cult of the 1200s. Native birch tar, violet, and white spruce grounded in incense and cypress roots. MISSISSIPPI MEDICINE is an ode to the mysterious rituals of a rapidly growing death cult that emerged in the southern part of the USA in the 13th century. Known as the South Eastern Ceremonial Complex, it marked a fascinating period within Mississippi culture, where a deep-rooted religious practice flourished. Also known as the Buzzard Cult or simply the Southern Death Cult (badass).
The sacred cedar tree symbolized a World Tree, serving as a gateway between the realms of the world. The idea that seemingly ordinary places - a cave, a spot under a bush, a small lake - could be portals to another world fascinates me deeply. The ancient peoples' understanding of the world was imbued with nature and its symbolism. Mississippi Medicine reveals the rich beauty of cedar, captured in its dry, red branches.
Generous doses of frankincense harmonize the woody aroma of cedar with fresh pine. Frankincense has long been a symbol of spiritual practices, and its scent deeply touches the soul. The heart of MISSISSIPPI MEDICINE by D.S. & Durga is complemented by an accord of wild violet, which could adorn the gentle hills of Mississippi in full bloom. Birch tar adds a smoky, primitive note to the fragrance, exuding mystery and primordiality.
