UNUM is about spirit. But not just spirituality. It is born from the awareness that the spirit transcends all boundaries and embraces the pulsating lifeblood of every population, based on its traditions, but without being sterile. As a company specialising in bespoke olfactory work and open to any artistic contamination, UNUM wants to talk about that part of us that lives in each of us and celebrate that which our hands cannot touch.

The first fragrance bears the same name as the hymn of praise, the praise that humanity offers to God through the work of its own hands. For the beauty of art in the service of a cult is the expression of God pervading the earth. In order to fill the emptiness of an almost complete sensual experience, Filippo decides to perfume the robe that will contain the garments until delivery. 

LAVS is the frankincense of frankincense. 

It is the first perfume to be created and is still the best-selling perfume in the Sorcinelli collection. LAVS is the first Unum perfume and stands for L.A.V.S. Atelier (Laboratorio Atelier Vesti Sacre), where Filippo Sorcinelli and his partner Marcello create liturgical vestments (worn by Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis). UNUM is modern perfumery with a conceptual style. 

The whole line evokes religion, dark arts and symbols. The birth of the perfume is nothing but a coincidence. It was first conceived as a room fragrance. The robes from Filippo's studio were perfumed when they were delivered to the clergy. Then Filippo Sorcinelli realised that his clients liked to wear it as a personal fragrance and he thought about creating a line of extrait de parfums. LAVS is the first interpretation of the line, based on sacred and seemingly dark rituals. 

The presence of frankincense is remarkable, a rare experience. It is at the heart of the fragrance, surrounded by a multitude of other woods and gums that add to its nuances. Frankincense in its clear definition. Dark and yet not heavy, profound and yet alive. Opoponax adds a few soft accents to the trail, and spices like nelk and coriander give it a heart. Despite the diversity of the individual scents, the overall result is harmonious.
