Behind the Fragrance

Filippo Sorcinelli UNUM RELIQVIA - Extrait de Parfum

"I leave what remains...Reliquie is a Latin word meaning "I leave". The Latin word "reliquiae" and the Greek word "λείψανα" are similar, their general meaning is "what remains" and the expression refers to the human body or one of its parts. In the Christian context, this word refers to a part of the body of Christ, or to an object belonging to Christ, or to the Mother of Christ, or to the mortal remains of those recognised as martyrs or saints, and in general to all objects that have come into contact with them.

RELIQVIA embodies the passion and depth that have been clouded by the incense and rituals of ancient times. It emphasises the importance of recognising and honouring the sacred in perfect rituals.

RELIQVIA is the ideal sacred space that, together with relics, gives us grace and certainty. Like the ancient Romans who tore the shrouds of the holy martyrs to feel their closeness and wrapped the Popes in these shrouds, it symbolises the sanctity and the effect of relics on us. Touching relics is a source of healing and deliverance for the sick and possessed, a miracle that restores sight to the blind and enables the lame to walk.

Reliqvia by Filippo Sorcinelli is clearly a frankincense fragrance with many protagonists. The solid base of woody notes carries the heart of herbaceous black Johannisbeer. The Scotch pine resin plays a role, and the overall impression of Reliqvia is rather masculine, but can also be worn by bold women. The Scots pine, also known as pinus sylvestris or forest pine, is a species of pine native to Europe, northern Asia and parts of North America. It is known for its characteristic long needles and cone-shaped cones.

The scent of Scotch pine is fresh, harsh and woody with a subtle spiciness. It gives off a sense of forest air and is often reminiscent of the soothing atmosphere of a coniferous forest. Green and earthy with a light freshness but with an earthy note. This resin gives the fragrance even more depth. The flacon, like all Sorcinelli flacons, is a work of art. The rust-coloured cap is pierced by a nail, which immediately gives meaning to the word reliquary.
