Behind the Fragrance
Perris Monte Carlo LAVANDE ROMAINE Eau de Parfum
Lavender is the essence of Haute-Provence. During the harvest season, the evenings fill the air with its characteristic aroma. The sunset is colored by the freshly cut flowers scattered across the fields. Lavender is so closely linked to Provence, that local farmers sometimes forget that lavender was already introduced during the Roman invasion. The Romans called the region Provincia Romana, from which the current name is derived. As a perfumer, I love the strength of these landscapes and the beauty of the lavender fields where flocks of blue butterflies flutter in the air. To bring this image to life, I composed Lavande Romaine: a joyful fragrance that dances and sings the scents of summer." - Jean-Claude Ellena
"Crossing Haute-Provence is a mystical journey. It's like crossing a rocky desert with only a few trees if it weren't for the lavender. The tall bushes dance in the wind of the mistral. Even if the evenings are no longer of the Fires under the alembics as described by Jean Giono, the pure and untouched scent of lavender remains the soul of this region." - Jean-Claude Ellena
The Romans utilized lavender to infuse the water they used for bathing, deriving its name from the Latin "lavare", meaning "to wash". Lavender was introduced throughout Europe by the Roman army, but it's in certain landscapes where it seamlessly integrates, leaving an indelible mark akin to unforgettable blue-purple hues.
Jean-Claude, captivated by lavender's essence, portrayed it uniquely. In his fragrance LAVANDE ROMAINE, he paints a vivid picture where blue butterflies dance in the sunset, accompanied by delicate notes of black currant, Atlas cedar and white musk. In LAVANDE ROMAINE, it's not the black currants themselves but rather the buds of the flowers, known as "Cassis Bourgeons", that impart fragrance. These buds offer a fruity, slightly sweet and green aroma, lending perfumes a fresh and lively quality. Typically used as a heart note in perfume compositions, cassis bourgeons add depth and complexity, evoking hints of cedar and clove.
This fragrance extracted from the buds may also be referred to as "Bourgeons de cassis absolue".
